A Family Affair
Buck’s Port Hope Diner is the third iteration by the third generation. The original diner was in Oak Park. A WWII Navy vet, Buck Wheeler, opened the first Buck’s Diner. Later, Buck’s son opened the second diner in Fair Haven. Buck’s Granddaughter and her husband opened the third and current diner in Port Hope in 2022. Their sons both work at the restaurant as well. One serves customers on the floor, and the other is a cook.
Outstanding Service
The diner is busy on a Sunday morning, but the attentive staff makes the atmosphere almost joyful. The staff is friendly to both customers and to each other. They are happy to chat with you for a moment but are mindful of their other tables and manage to juggle it all with a smile.
Hashbrown Heaven
I ordered a side of hashbrowns with my meal, and I was glad I did! These were hands-down the BEST hashbrowns I have ever had. They were delicious—perfectly crispy on the outside, flavorful, and soft and tender on the inside. Make sure to try them. The other foods we had were also delicious. Buck’s serves potato pancakes; although we didn’t order those, we saw several orders going out to tables, and those looked just as perfectly done as the hashbrowns. We may have to try those next time.
A Bonus
As we prepared to leave, our waitress asked if we wanted our final coffee refill in to-go cups. We said yes, and she filled large Styrofoam cups with fresh coffee for us to take with us at no charge. What an excellent way to add to the wonderful service we had already received.
