The White Horse Inn: Delicious Food, Amazing Artful Ambiance.

The White Horse Inn perfectly blends food, history, art, and architecture! Although it is currently a restaurant, its history is long and storied. The building was initially built in 1848, 175 years ago! It changed hands a few times but has almost always been in operation. Check out their website for details about the history and a self-guided or virtual walking tour.

Our Night at the White Horse Inn

We have been to the White Horse Inn a few times and always enjoy ourselves. The last time we went was with a large group. Our tables were ready and waiting when we arrived, and we were given rounds of water and drink orders taken right away. We had a team of 3 servers with one set in charge, and she was personable and communicated clearly. They had a great system to ensure that everyone was served what they ordered promptly.

The menu had a variety of wonderful-sounding options from different categories. Plenty of things to choose from, including potatoes! There were six different potato options for those who chose a dinner entree. They all sounded delicious.

Entering the Restaurant

The building itself and all the artwork it contains could be a museum. It is stunning inside and outside. The Bilevel patio in the back is incredibly enticing and lets you enjoy a luxurious evening of good food and excellent service. When you walk in the back door, you enter near the unique and attractive washrooms to the right, an inviting, cozy fireplace to the left, and a beautiful bar directly in front of you. They are so full of wonder and beauty that I could only stare and didn’t take any photos. Plus, the place was pretty busy at peak on Saturday night.

Getting to our Seats

Our tables awaited us upstairs. The stairwell was a work of art, and as you ascended, you could see the other artwork around the main floor. The tables and chairs are all heavy dark wood. They are rustic but somehow elegant at the same time.

The Food

So good, and the portions were large. I missed the opportunity to take a picture of the famous White Horse Pickles and Bread appetizer. Very tasty. I had the Cowboy Mac N Cheese, and he had the Roast Beef Dinner with 1 of the six potato options. They were both delicious. The Cowboy Mac had the best candied bacon on top, and a layer of tender pulled pork was on the bottom. I tasted his roast beef, and it was done to perfection. Slightly chewy and crispy on the outside and soft, tender, and juicy on the inside. Very, very good food.

Finished and Heading Home

It got dark while we were there enjoying our delightful dinner-food, servers, and company. The patio and firepit are even more inviting on a mild late summer evening. The crowd had cleared out. This patio was packed when we arrived. The firepit had a few folks enjoying some drinks while cozying up to the warmth of the flames.

All in all, it was a wonderful evening. We highly recommend you come for lunch or dinner and enjoy all The White Horse Inn offers.

Before you come for food, you could work up an appetite at Sutherland Nature Sanctuary or at one of the many things to do in Oxford, which is only a few miles south on M24. And don’t forget a souvenir from Metamora at the Metamora General Store while you’re there. You can also hire Warstler Farm for a private Trolley or Carriage Ride to and/or from the restaurant. What to Know Before You Go

The White Horse Inn is in Metormora, Michigan, right in downtown. The address is 1 East High Street in Metamora. From M24 between I69 and Oxford, turn East on Dryden Road. The restaurant is less than a mile and a half from M24. The parking lot is on the north and east sides of the building, and there is also parking on the street. We strongly recommend reservations, especially for dinner. Dress is casual to dressy. It really depends on your own occasion for going to dinner.
