Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area: Wooded Terrain for All Your Outdoor Plans
Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area in Metamora, Michigan, is full of beautiful wooded terrain for hiking, camping, and much more. This 723-acre park encompasses Lake Minnawanna. We have walked here many times over the past several years and have even used the park for senior photos. It’s one of our photographer’s favorite places. If you enjoy wooded walks or wooded campsites near a small lake, this is the place for you.
Hiking Trails
Six miles of trails meander through wooded hills and over streams at Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area. We have hiked most sections of the trails, and they are all beautiful and covered under a canopy of mixed trees. The woods help keep the trails cooler in the summer but also can lead to more mosquitos, so be prepared and bring along your bug deterrent of choice. The trails are usually dry, with small bridges that cross over streams. The trails are uneven, with roots and rocks scattered throughout, so wear appropriate footwear and bring a walking stick if you like.
Camping and Cabin Rental
The Campground at Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area is a modern wooded campground. There are also two cabins available for rental, modern bathrooms, and a camp store. We know several people who have camped here or who camp here regularly and enjoy it. The campground opens late for the 2024 season due to infrastructure upgrades to the roads and electrical and water hookups.
Beach and Day Use Area
The Day Use Area of the Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area is large and has much to offer. For the Fishing enthusiast, there is a fishing pier and a small boat launch. Lake Minnawanna is a small no-wake lake. A picnic shelter and several picnic tables and grills are scattered throughout the area. A designated swimming area is outlined in the water along a sandy beach. For the slightly more adventurous, the beach house rents out bikes, row boats, kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boats, and canoes. The beach house also has modern bathrooms, changing areas, showers, and a concession.
