Modern Marketplace is in downtown Oxford, Michigan. Delightfully curated goods from more than 60 local vendors adorn the walls and shelves. Whether you are looking for a gift, an addition to your home, or something special for yourself, you are sure to find it here.
This is an excellent stop on your way through town since it is right on the highway. You can also add it to a more extended exploration of Oxford and the surrounding area. If you want to plan a day or weekend trip in the area, here is a list of things to add to your itinerary. Modern Marketplace is also part of the Downtown Oxford Social District.
The store is quite large but arranged in a way that is inviting and easy to navigate. The displays are well organized, and it is easy to see all the beautiful things offered for sale. The owner is happy to help you find what you are looking for and to answer any of your questions.
Modern Marketplace is easy to find. It is on the corner of M24 and Burdick Street at the Southeast corner and in the middle of downtown Oxford. There are entrances in the front, along with street parking on M24. There is also a parking lot and entrance at the rear of the building. You can also find them on Facebook for more information.
The store has over 60 different vendors, from refinished and updated furniture to clothing and home decor, some of which have a Michigan theme. There are also personal and home cleaning supplies. The list is long, and all options are excellent; picking just a few is hard.
Furniture at Modern Marketplace
The owner and another vendor both refinish furniture, and it’s all beautiful. The furniture is skillfully painted and upholstered and made to last for years. If you want to paint some of your own furniture, the store carries paints from a few companies. The owner was happy to answer my questions about recommendations for what types of paints to use for different projects. Feel free to ask all your questions to help you get started on your projects or purchase one (or more) of the beautiful pieces for sale in the store.
Personal and Home Cleaning Items
There are several types of home and personal cleaning items for sale here. One of my favorite gifts to receive has been home cleaning supplies of good quality and lovely scents. These make great gifts for just about anyone.
Clothing and Accessories
The store has a small selection of clothing, purses, jewelry, and other locally made accessories. If you need to spruce up your style or are looking for a gift for someone, any of these are great. It is also nice to know that you are going beyond fast fashion and helping to support a local artist.
Home Decor at Modern Marketplace
There are so many options for home decor here that you will have to come back again and again for yourself and gifts for others. I encourage you to take your time and wander slowly through the store. There are so many unique items from many different artists and styles.
Especially pay attention to the local Michigan and Oxford items- lots of souvenir options here that are special and made by people who live here. Now that is my kind of souvenir!!
DIY
As mentioned earlier, furniture and project paints are available to purchase with expert advice from the owner if needed or desired. There are other options for DIY as well. Old window frames with prints in the windows are scattered throughout the store. They are attractive, and you can style them to fit any color or decor. They have packets of prints that you can buy to style your own window frame or change them out for the seasons. This looks like such a great idea.
