Kate’s Downtown Has the BEST Chai Around

Kate’s Downtown in Port Huron, Michigan, is charming. Downtown shops have their own unique appeal, and Kate’s is no exception. There is something comforting about a downtown that has stood the test of time. A link to our past, but reimagined for our “now.” Kate’s Downtown has a timelessness and a connection to the past with the vibrancy of today.

Saturday Atmosphere

Kate’s was bustling on a Saturday morning. The tables were mostly filled, staff was zipping around with orders and smiles, and a few customers were lined up to order. The walk from the back entrance was a little winding, but it was easy to find the way to the counter to order. The music was upbeat, and a mix of older classics played in the background. Noticeable in the lulls between conversations.

Dose of Nostalgia

On the way to the counter, we noticed a set of double doors in the wall that led to the shop next door. I was almost instantly transported back to childhood. A family member owned a shop in downtown Grand Haven when I was little, and the shops there had doors that connected them one to another. I remember trying to see how far we could go without going outside. It wasn’t all that far, but as children, it felt farther than it was. This little hit of nostalgia brought a smile to my heart. (I think we’ll be planning a trip to Grand Haven in the near future)

We were between breakfast and lunch, so we just ordered some drinks. I chose one from their suggested specials menu that looked good, and he had hot cocoa. We both said yes to all the fixings. The food passing by in the hands of the servers looked delicious, and I found myself wishing I was more hungry. We’ll have to go back with an appetite another day.

Cozy Spot at Kate’s Downtown

We spotted a little couch tucked away in the front window and headed there. It seemed a perfect spot since we didn’t need a table for food. The couch was just the right amount of squishy and held us in a nice, cozy hug. The excellent vantage point from here allowed us to watch the cafe and enjoy each other’s company.

To-Die-For Chai and Hot Cocoa

The server brought over two large cups sitting on pretty saucers. The cups were topped with whipped cream and bits of tasty crunchy sugar. They looked picture-perfect. He said his hot cocoa was delicious. One sip of the special Chai Latte with Raspberry puree, and my mouth sang! I am not exaggerating. I have never had a drink that tasted so delicious. The flavor balance was perfect, and the puree elevated the drink to a new level, far above the usual raspberry syrup. Absolutely Outstanding. Well done, Kate!

Planning another Trip

Visitors from the UK will be with us next month, and we are already planning a trip here to get a Raspberry Chai Latte; we will come hungry to try some of the yummy food options. We can’t wait to go back.
